.....The Washington Hotel at 23rd and Mechanic. This building was originally built in 1873,by J. P. Davie as the Cosmopolitan Hotel. There was an existing Washington Hotel down the street, so the name was not the Washington until later. The building survived until in 1983. An electrical fire, thought to be set by burglars to cover their tracks, resulted in extensive damage to the building. Prior to the storm, Cynthia and George Mitchell were preparing to restore the building, and did so in the following years. It is currently home to a dress shop and offices, and is no longer an active hotel.
