in 1877, this building housed a "Wholesale Grocers and Cotton Factors"
concern owned by Josephe E. Wallis, Henry A. Landes, and Charles L.
Wallis. The establishment advertised "Importers and Dealers in
Liquors, Cigars and Tobacco, Woodenware, etc. The business was established
in 1865.
.....A hurricane and tornado caused the two upper floors of the building to collapse in 1943. Only the bottom floor is standing today. The building is occupied by Simpson Galleries, a fine art and antiques shop.
