.....1726 Broadway in 1908. - Nicholas Clayton designed the Classical Revival-style home on the corner in 1892. It was occupied by the Lasker Family. Morris Lasker was a successful Galveston businessman, and his son Albert Lasker went into advertising and became extremely famous in that profession. .....1702 Broadway - The house to the right is the League-Kempner house. .....The Lasker house was demolished in 1967 to make room for an apartment complex. This helped to focus attention to historic preservation in Galveston. .....The League-Kempner house is still there, but can't be seen because of the trees. Some modifications have occured, including enclosing the porches on the second floor. |
