Galveston Brewery - 33rd & Postoffice

Galveston Brewery

.....The Galveston Brewing Company was begun in 1893, but the brewery itself was not built until 1896. Adolphus Busch, president of Anheiser Busch had found that importing beer to Galveston was not very profitable and was looking for an alternative location for a brewery. After organizing in 1893, he found a source of water for the brewery in 1895 through Artesian wells, and construction was started in 1895. A brewery, ice plant, and bottling facility were constructed. The plant formally opened in 1897.

.....The beer initially was named "Seawall Bond." Later it was changed to "High Grade and advertising billed it as "The Beer thats Liquid Food."
