From "Souvenir of Galveston" ~1900
.....This is an image of
Mechanic looking east from 25th, mislabeled in the brochure as 26th.
The large building on the left is the Clarke & Courts building,
which is now the Strand Lofts. The next building down was the Leon &
H. Blum building, which originally was built with three stories. It
is now the Tremont House Hotel, with a Mansard roof added as a fourth
floor. A sketch of the building from 1882 showed a Mansard roof, but
it was never built until 100 years later when George and Cynthia Mitchell
restored it as an upscale hotel.
