.....This Tremont Hotel was the second one in Galveston. The original burned in 1865. Architect Nicholas Clayton was brought to Galveston in 1872 to design this building for for Harris Kempner and his partner Marx Marx. The hotel featured Italian marble floors and a grand staircase and 200 rooms. The Tremont was the finest and most luxurious hotel in the South.
