The
Henry Rosenberg School was built in 1888. It was a gift to the
citizens of Galveston from Henry Rosenberg. The school had facilities
for 1000 students and 19 teachers. Although damaged, it did survive
the 1900 Storm, however several persons who took refuge there were
killed when portions of the roof collapsed.

1900", Wm. Chase, Clarence Ousley

Original School Location (from 1889 Sanborn Map)
The
original building no-longer stands, but the current school, located
on the what used to be Sherman Park, retains the name of one of
Galveston's most generous philanthropists.
