.....Henry Rosenberg contributed this statue to the citizens of Galveston. This was designed to be a memorial to the Heroes of the Texas Revolution. A dedication ceremony on San Jacinto Day, April 21st, 1900 and featured a parade and ceremonies attended by Governer Joseph D. Sayers. .....The monument was created by Italian sculptor Louis Amateis. It is made of bronze and granite and features the female form of Victory holding a laurel wreath in an outstretched arm. .....Decaying and in disrepair, the statue was restored in 1991 with an effort headed by Ballinger Mills. It now once again proudly points to the San Jacinto Battleground across the bay, where Santa Anna was defeated, thus allowing for independence for the Republic of Texas. |
